STYGION Launcher s0.10.0: what's new
Memory
- The default RAM for Minecraft is 75 % of your computer's RAM (it used to be at most half), up to 16 GB; at least 3 GB always stay for the system. This applies to instances with mods; plain Minecraft stays at 2–3 GB. What you set yourself is not changed. The fix after a memory crash may raise the heap only up to the same ceiling (75 %, 3 GB for the system).
New instance: pick versions, do not type them
- Minecraft version from a list with search; the latest release is on top, snapshots and old beta/alpha are switches.
- The loader and its version are picked only from what really exists for the chosen Minecraft version (Fabric, Quilt, NeoForge, Forge); unavailable ones are not offered and the default is the newest stable version. Offline, the dialog shows the last saved list.
- Typing the versions by hand stays as an advanced option (Type the versions by hand), unchecked.
Badges
- A new Badges page (in the left rail and in Ctrl K, only with STYGION ID). STYGION ID counts badges from what it already records (friends, reports, ideas, time on our worlds), so they are the same on every computer and cannot be faked. Three steps (copper, brass, gold), "X % of players" on every step, a showcase of up to three.
- Leaderboard (Collection / Leaderboard): the current season or overall, points by rarity, your place on top.
- Game badges from STYGION MC belong to a season; a new season counts from zero and past ones stay yours.
- A friend's profile shows their showcase and a Compare button (both have / only you / only them) — no score.
- Settings → Badges: who sees them (Public / Friends / Nobody), hide a single badge, switch them off entirely; in the launcher, notices (toast / dot only / nothing), sound and how hidden badges show. Nothing interrupts a game.
- The public leaderboard is one switch away (Settings → Badges, or on the site under Your account → Badges); your collection stays as it is.
- Rare badges are given by hand by VOIDIVIDE: their own picture, a little motion, a piece number ("#1 of 3"); only you see why you got it.
- Hidden badges give nothing away, not even through their id.
Pack updates that keep your edits
- What you changed stays. An update compares every file of the pack three ways: what the pack had last time, what you have, and what the new version brings. Configs you never touched get the new version; the ones the pack did not change stay yours. Where you both changed the same thing, the launcher asks: Overwrite with new / Keep mine / Show the difference, also "for all". Configs (toml, json, properties, options.txt, cfg, snbt) merge key by key, so your keybinds and render distance stay and the pack's changes land.
- Your own mods, resource packs and shaders stay. Only what the pack itself brought and no longer ships is removed. A mod you updated yourself stays (unless the pack updated it too), and a mod you disabled stays disabled in its new version. Nothing already on disk is downloaded again.
- Before updating you choose what to back up (mods and configs, worlds, screenshots — with sizes), and going back is one click in the instance detail → Backups. The last 5 are kept.
- Works for picking a version, "Update" before playing, and Play from the web.
- A mod the pack dropped but you edited or updated since stays (only a file exactly as the pack shipped it is removed).
- Restoring a backup lays everything out first and swaps afterwards, so a failure (full disk) leaves the instance as it was. Links to folders elsewhere are not deleted on restore, and the backup shows how many it left out. An update, a restore and a start of the same instance can no longer overlap.
- The "Mods, configs and settings" backup takes only what an update touches; maps, Distant Horizons LODs, minimap waypoints and replays are a choice of their own, Mod data. Free space is checked first, progress shows and the backup can be cancelled.
- An update cut short (Cancel, a closed CurseForge window, a lost network) no longer passes for finished: the instance stays on the old version, a second run fetches only the rest, and a mod is never left in two versions. Play then asks: Finish the update / Go back to the backup / Play anyway. A file that failed to download keeps the mod's old version.
- A setting new in the pack is taken without a question (it used to ask even when a mod had merely written its default).
- Restoring a backup no longer deletes what mods wrote since (minimap waypoints, map tiles).
Import from other launchers
- On first start the launcher finds instances from Prism/MultiMC, CurseForge, the Modrinth App, ATLauncher, GDLauncher and the official launcher, and offers to bring them over. It shows the size first and leaves logs and caches behind. The same works any time from Library → From another launcher.
Fixes
- A server announced only by a DNS SRV record (
_minecraft._tcp.<domain>) no longer shows as offline in the launcher, and the game connects to the right port: the ping and the address handed to the game (Quick Play) resolve SRV like the vanilla client (SRV → host:port, otherwise A/AAAA on 25565), with their own short timeout and a few minutes of memory. Addresses with accents (IDN) are converted to punycode. - A locked CurseForge file while changing a pack's version (STYGION MC locks even the pack archive itself): the CurseForge dialog stayed on "File installed, continuing…" and the update could not go on. It now closes and the update continues.
- A download from the CurseForge window that did land is no longer reported as a closed window (Linux reported one download twice).
- Linux without a Downloads folder set (no
xdg-user-dirs) saves locked files to~/Downloadsinstead of failing silently. - Play with no Minecraft account now says what to do (add a Microsoft or offline account) instead of "add an account first".
